APPLICATIONS

The Jenga Tower Challenge can be used in groups for social skills or other groups where the issue of teasing becomes an important factor. It helps children who have deficits in this area to learn their own strategies. Although it also can be played on an individual basis, the therapist would be the only one “teasing,” which is not effective and risks the therapist/client relationship.

Feelings Charades

Cynthia Reynolds

INTRODUCTION

Feelings Charades is an excellent technique to facilitate the emotional education of children. It can be used as prevention for the emotional well-being of children, as an intervention for children experiencing emotional difficulties, or as remediation for children who appear to be lagging in emotional development. Because this technique requires the child to be in the spotlight and the center of attention for a few minutes, it is intrinsically motivating. Games of charades or pantomime that involve body movement and facial expressions are fun and encourage creativity and spontaneity on the part of the child.
